Hacettepe University is one of the major state universities of Turkey. It is situated in Ankara and is known for its great academic record. The University has two main campuses: first is in the old town of Ankara hosting the Medical Centre, and the second is the Beytepe Campus, which is about 13km away from the center of the city. The Beytepe Campus is spread in an area of 6,000,000 m2 of green land and woodland, hosting the faculties of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Letters, and Science. This university also has the School of Social Work which is located at Keçiören, and the Turkish State Conservatory in Ankara, located at the Beşevler Campus.

History of Hacettepe University

The Hittite stag used to serve as the inspiration for the Hacettepe University emblem. The university’s history can be tracked back from the time the Institute of Child Health was established on July 8, 1958, and the Hacettepe Children’s Hospital was inaugurated by Prof. Dr İhsan Doğramacı. In 1961, the School of Health Sciences was opened, having divisions of Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and Nutrition. In 1963, Hacettepe University’s Faculty of Medicine was established with a teaching hospital. Later on, the university management founded the School of Dentistry, in the same year of 1963.

During summer of 1964, a School of Basic Sciences was opened, where the courses in natural sciences, social sciences and the humanity-related subjects were started to offer.

The university is chartered through Act No. 892 of the Turkish Parliament since 1967.
