Ege University is a popular public sector university of Turkey. It is situated in Izmir, Turkey, and was founded in 1955 with the faculties of Medicine and Agriculture. This is the very first university of the city to initiate high quality degree programs, and one of best Turkish universities.

History of Ege University

By 1982, Ege University remained as a large Turkish university having 17 faculties, 9 junior college-type schools and 8 institutes. A year after, one of its parts was separated and given the form of another university named as Dokuz Eylül University. After the division, the Ege University consisted of 7 faculties, 3 junior college-type schools and approximately 9000 students.

Currently, it has 12 faculties, 7 junior college-type schools (with 4 years of curriculum), 7 vocational training schools (with 2 years of curriculum), 8 institutes and 26 research centers.

Campus of Ege University

Bornova Campus of Ege University is spread in an approximate area of 370 hectares. The campus covers numerous facilities like culture, sport and social services. It also offers the students and faculty members with car parking area, communication facilities, and a huge computer lab with in-house computer networking system.

The campus is present is at the crossroad of Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, intercity transportation is very fast. You can reach the university via municipal bus as well. Underground services let the students reach the premises of university from all parts of the city. The General Directorate of Students’ Credits and Dormitories is known to administer dormitories, providing facilities to thousands of on-campus students. Ege University has approximately 40000 students currently.

Student Life and Culture of Ege University

The university is known to provide opportunities for personal, cultural, social and professional development that are well complimenting the complex and challenging academic environment. Activities take place in Culture and Arts Hall that can accommodate over 300 students, the Amphitheater with accommodation for 5000 spectators, Atatürk Cultural Center with 2 auditoriums with accommodation respectively for 654 and 628 spectators, and there are four seminar rooms for 45 spectators. Apart from it, the university has workshops, theater hall, exhibition gallery, conference halls, and various other facilities.

An art gallery was founded in 1997, and it is known to be an excellent place for exhibitions. The university has over 40 student clubs.
